Taasisi ya Sanaa na Utamaduni Bagamoyo (TaSUBa)is a semi autonomous government institute that provides training, research and consultancy service in arts and culture.
HISTORY
TaSUBa is the offspring of Bagamoyo College of Arts whose history can be condensed in the following chronicle:
- 1962 - The Ministry of National Culture and Youth is formed in then Tanganyika.
- 1963 - The Ministry formulates the National Performing Arts Company, (NPAC) starting with dance performances.
- 1969 - Acrobatics is introduced in the company’s repertoire. 1971 - Acrobatics training for primary and secondary school leavers is initiated under the then Ministry of National Education.
- 1974 - Drama is included in the NPAC and the then college of performing Arts is established in Dar es Salaam.
- 1980 - The NPAC (at the time a fouling company is disbanded and replaced with then college of performing Arts whose campus is later shifted from Dar es Salaam to Bagamoyo due to minimum space in the former location.
- 1981 - The then Bagamoyo College of Performing Arts is officially launched.
- 1987 - Fine Arts Subjects are introduced and the College changes its name to Bagamoyo College of Arts (BCA), whose objectives are as follows:-
· To produce artists and arts administrators, researchers and consultants;
· To promote artists standards appreciation of Tanzania Culture and awareness in the use of arts in development issues.
ESTABLISHMENT OF TaSUBa
The Taasisi ya Sanaa na Utamaduni Bagamoyo (TaSUBa) has been established in accordance with the Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997 and Government Notice No. 220 of November 2007
OBJECTIVES
TaSUBa has the following objectives:
- Provision of high quality training programmes learning facilities, Multimedia, Arts and Culture production.
- Provision of consultancy services and research in culture
- Provision of efficient management of the institute's resources
AIM
TaSUBa aims at providing training research and consultancy service in art and culture. TaSUBa offers service to clients in Tanzania and outside the country.
“The Agency is expected to utilize fully the existing business opportunities from
the client of art and culture products and service both in the government and private sectors”.
